While LED technology has come a long way, and endured as the better option for lighting in many sign types, there will always be a place for neon in the sign industry, especially in border tubing and as an exposed source of lighting where its genuine look and brightness has yet to be copied. Neon is often portrayed as dangerous and expensive to operate but neither are true with proper fabrication and the use of the correct electronic transformers.
