Monument Signs

Custom monument signs make an impressive entry statement

• Custom business monuments
• Stone and wood monument signs
• Aluminum monument signs
• Internal and external illuminated monument signs

A monument sign is a free-standing sign installed at ground level, usually near your entrance or along the road. A well-designed monument should pull elements from the architecture of your building and your brand to represent your business with a cohesive look and feel. A monument is intended to be a weighty piece that commemorates a notable place or person and a monument sign should do that for your business. Lit or unlit monument signs that are appropriately designed will develop a sense of permanence and confidence for your business and of course attract the attention of potential customers. Northwest Sign and Design’s goal is to design monument signs that become landmarks, pieces that are so memorable they are used as points of reference when giving directions.

Monument Sign FAQs

How much does a monument sign cost?

It depends on where you're starting. Do you already have a design? Do you know what type of sign you need? Do you know what you want it to look like? The more of these details that are finalized upfront, the more accurately we can we can price it. Don't have it all figured out yet? That's what our concept design and master planning is for. We'll work through those questions with you and turn your ideas into a design we can price accurately.

Also keep in mind that the sign is only part of the project budget. Permits, engineering, the foundation, electrical service, and installation all come out of the same pot. If your overall budget is $30,000, your sign budget is less than that. We'll help you map out the full picture up front so there are no surprises.

Working with a firm number? Concept design helps you get the most out of it. Thoughtful material choices can achieve the look you want for less. For example, if you love brushed aluminum, we can hand-brush real aluminum (the premium option), use a brushed aluminum laminate, or recreate the look with paint. Each option delivers the design intent at a different price point, so we can hit your budget without giving up the look.

Should my monument sign be lit?

If people need to find you after dark, especially during our long Northwest winters, lighting keeps your sign working around the clock. We'll help you pick the lighting option that fits your site and budget.

Do I need a permit?

Almost always. Most Washington cities require a sign permit, and lit signs need an electrical permit too. Rules vary city to city, so we check the local sign code early in the design process.

Can you design it for us?

Yes. Our in-house designers can start from your logo and site photos, or refine a design you already have.
